Dan Evans (Team Elite-Paul Bethell Electrical) took a clear victory in the Fibrax Wrexham RC hill climb up the Horseshoe Pass in Denbighshire on Sunday morning.

Evans, who finished second in the National Hill Climb Championship last year, showed he will again be a force to be reckoned with by clocking a time of eight minutes and 54 seconds to take a clear victory.

The Team Elite rider started as scratch rider after winning last year's event and also holds the course record of  8.52, but despite the calm conditions fell just short on this occasion.

The Horseshoe Pass climb is over two miles long and has a fairly steady climb with two hairpins.

Taking second in a time of 9.27 was Chris Dyke (Manchester Bicycle Club) while Team Bottrill rider George Evans took third place in a time 9.48.

Devon Round (Mid Shropshire Wheelers) was the fastest junior and his time of 10.20 was fast enough for seventh overall out of the 89 starters.

Fastest woman was host club rider Becky Lewis in 10.55, just 15 seconds short of her women's course record set last year.

Fastest veteran was Mark Jones (Wrexham RC) in 10.51 while Team Elite won the team prize.
