Olympic Academy rider Scott Davies (Team Wiggins) powered to victory in the VTTA (South Wales) 30-mile time trial in South Wales on Saturday, covering the R30/7 course near Hardwick in an impressive time of 58.22.

The 21-year-old from Carmarthen took the win by more than three minutes with a time many would’ve been happy with for a 25-mile event, leaving Anthony Jones (Bynea CC) to take second spot with 1-01-27, while another nine seconds back in third spot was veteran Lee Morgan (Team Bottrill).

Davies, the reigning British Under-23 Time Trial Champion, is more usually seen in road races across the world, most recently in the Tour Alsace in France where he placed second overall.

Last weekend, Davies clocked 46.33 to finish second in the Port Talbot Wheelers 25, second only to Marcin Bialoblocki who was on his way to breaking the national competition record.

Fifth spot went to talented junior Josh Griffiths (Bristol South CC) with 1-03-15, while the fastest female was Andrea Parish (Camel Valley C&TC) whose time was 1-11-34.

Best veteran on standard was 70-year-old Stuart Evans of the Port Talbot Wheelers, whose time of 1-09-10 gave him a plus of 20.21, while second was 43-year-old Lee Morgan.

The event also included a two-up event, which was won by James Coleman DRK Racing) and Tavis Walker (VC Walcot) in a time of 1-01-30, beating Team Bottrill duo Chris Holman and Chris Massey by 50 seconds.

And the winners of the two-up on standard were Bush Healthcare CRT women Clare Greenwood and Susan Shook who clocked 1-12-16 for an age plus of 18.37.
