Rob Young (Team Vision Racing) clocked an impressive 19.38 on a less than perfect day on the E2/10 at Six Mile Bottom in Cambridgeshire, where the Eastern Counties CA were hosting their 10-mile event.

Young took the win by nine seconds from Gray Turnock (Finsbury Park CC) who was joined on the podium by Finsbury club-mate Julian Elliott, his time of 19.49 being good enough for third spot.

It was a close event all-round, with 150 riders all eager to chase personal best times, and many managed it with the entries being reserved for the slowest 150.

Just five seconds behind Elliott was Twickenham CC’s Stephen Campbell with 19.54, while one second further back – and the last of the men who went under the 20-minute mark – was James Jenkins (Southend Wheelers), with David Harding (Chelmer CC) just missing out with 20-04 for sixth.

Illustrating the closeness of the result, there was a three-way tie for seventh spot between Mick Hodson (St Ives CC), Peter Harding (Chelmer CC) and Max Sahota (St Ives CC) who were all on 20.12, while Anton Blackie (Rapha CC) rounded off the top ten with 20.15.

Finabury Park CC secured the team prize with Turnock and Elliott being joined in the victorious trio by Ian Bibby, while Julia Freeman was the pick of the women, the Easterley RC rider’s time of 22.11 being just four seconds faster than Anna Dearing (Colchester Rovers CC) in second spot.
