Jones and Handy take Reading 10 wins
Paul Jones

Paul Jones returned to winning ways with success in the men’s event at the Reading CC 10-mile time trial in Berkshire on Sunday morning despite a mechanical issue, with Kat Handy winning the women’s category.

After a 12th place finish at the Welsh Championship 25-mile time trial on April 30 and third at the 25-mile Poole Wheelers CC time trial on May 14, Jones secured his third win of the campaign in a time of 20-28.

On his success, the Primera-TeamJobs rider said: “I’m really pleased to win and it is nice to ride a course I haven’t ridden before.

“My pacing was good but I did what is now probably called a Roglic and my chain dropped off. I managed to scoop it back on, but it is not easy on a narrow wide chainring.”

In second place came Army Cycling rider Edd Charlton-Weedy in 20-53, while Paceline RT’s Pjotrs Suhovs narrowly clinched the final podium spot in 21-07, just three seconds ahead of Tom Quinlan (Fulfil the Potential Race Team) who clocked 21-10 and was edged into fourth.

In the women’s event Kat Handy (Valley Striders CC) was fastest in 27-12, with Lottie Lindsley (Reading CC) third, 1-07 behind, and Danielle Millar (Hart Veloce) third, another 3-41 behind.

Top tandem was Wendy Bennett (Reading CC) and Ray Bennett (Reading CC) in 24-56.

This 10-mile event was run on the H10/1C course, starts just east of Woolhampton and heads eastbound past Theale-Englefield airstrip, turning at the A4 roundabout to retrace the route and finish just west past the start on Bath Road.
