Reading CC 50

Nick Richards (GS Mossa) charged to victory by over a minute in the Reading CC 50, while Emma O'Toole (Nopinz Motip Race Team) was a clear winner in the women’s event.

Richards, aged 28, took his first ever open time trial victory completing the course in a time of one hour, 46 minutes and 54 seconds.

The H50/1B saw riders start near Woolhampton before completing three and a half laps of an out and back course along the A4 between Thatcham and Reading

The course record is held by Sebastian Dickson who posted a 1-43-41 last year and that remains the benchmark time.

Richards finished third in the Charlotteville Cycling Club 50 on his only other outing this season clocking 1-45-55.

Despite being almost a minute slower on this occasion Richards’ time was comfortably enough for victory.

Michael Nagi (Team Bottrill) beat Richards in the Charlotteville Cycling Club 50 last month but saw that result reversed this time out finishing second in 1-48-05.

A close fight for the final podium position saw Ross Hamilton (Bynea Cycling Club) finish third in 1-48-40 which was just four seconds quicker than Tom Lane (North Hampshire RC).

Quickest veteran on scratch was Leon Marshall (Royal Navy & Royal Marines CA) whose time of 1-50-09 was good enough for fifth place overall.

In the women’s event O’Toole, from Totton, took her fourth victory of the season completing the course in a time of two hours, four minutes and 59 seconds.

The 29-year-old finished third woman in the Charlotteville Cycling Club 50 but was not to be denied on this occasion.

Host club rider Teresa Robbins finished second in 2-10-43 while Rachel Waite (North Hampshire RC) completed the podium positions in third (2-21-11).
