Sam Clark (TBW23 Stuart Hall Cycling P/b Trainsharp) snatched victory by just two seconds in the A3crg Sporting 15km, while host club rider Lucy Mitchell won the women’s event.

Meanwhile, in the highly competitive road bike event Callum Dunford (JAM Cycling Race Team coached by BPC) took the men’s win and Catarina Podevyn (Velo Club Godalming & Haslemere) was women’s victor.

Under-23 rider Clark, who finished fourth in the midweek …a3crg Glorious Goodwood Circuit TT 11.8 event went better on this occasion to take his first win of the campaign in 21 minutes and 27 seconds.

Starting on the B2070 riders headed south, on a section used previously in the National 10, for the opening four miles.

Riders then turned onto the A272 before turning at Rogate and then gradually climbing for the last three miles through the trees of Fynings Wood to the finish.

Better conditions than the previous day greeted riders but they still battled against a wind and the sun that shone on the early starters clouded over as the morning went on.

In the time trial event Clarke was pushed all the way by Ben Williams (GS Mossa) who fell just two seconds short in 21-29 while junior rider Lukas Nerurkar (VC de Londres) took a fine third place another 11 seconds back (21-40).

It was a good week for Nerurkar after his third place in the mid-week …a3crg Glorious Goodwood Circuit TT 11.8.

Fastest veteran in the time trial event was Justin Webb (...a3crg) in 22-12 just eight seconds ahead of Mark Smith (Crawley Wheelers) while Peter Younghusband (Petersfield Triathlon Club) finished third in the category in 22-50.

In the women’s event Mitchell took her first victory of the season clocking a time of 27-17 which was over a minute faster than Becca Drake (BellaVelo cc) 28-32.

Dunford finished second in the Velo Club Venta 10 last month but went one better on this occasion with a winning time of 23-01.

An impressive ride by 15-year-old Matthew Gilmour (Velo Club Venta) saw him take second in 23-34 just four seconds ahead of junior rider Jonathan Vickers (Blazing Saddles).

Fastest veteran on scratch was Richard Porter (Wessex Road Club) in fourth overall (23-57) and in the vets category beating Gavin Lancaster (Ride 24/7) into second (24-09) while Jon Hughes (Velo Club Godalming & Haslemere) was third veteran on scratch in 24-39.

In her first open time trial Podevyn took victory in the women’s event clocking a time of 28-49 just 18 seconds ahead veteran of Nicola Spensley (Kent Velo Girls/Boys).
